I haven’t done all the categories as I am woefully behind this year with the best documentaries and foreign language films.
Should Win: This year is one of the first times I’ve seen all of the Best Picture nominees before the ceremony. I really would be perfectly happy if either of the front runners 12 Years A Slave or Gravity won
Will Win: It is going to be close but I think 12 Years A Slave will clinch it
Should Win: Again I’m split between 12 Years A Slave and Gravity, you have the shear technical brilliance of Alfonso Cuarón’s work which made me actually genuinely appreciate a 3D movie but then you have the moving work of Steve McQueen.
Will Win: Alfonso Cuarón. There used to be a time when Best Picture and Director went to the same film but this has changed in recent years.
Best Supporting Actor
Should Win: Barkhad Abdi was mesmerizing in Captain Phillips, I would love to see him win but know it’s not going to happen.
Will Win: If Jared Leto somehow doesn’t get it then it will be one of the biggest upsets, he has seeing he has dominated the awards season this year.
Best Supporting Actress
Should Win: To be honest I am not looking forward to this award because already the internet has turned it into a vicious fight between two young actresses and the backlash that is coming Jennifer Lawrence’s way is just painfully predictable. Right onto who I want to win either Lupita Nyong’o who gave an astonishing performance or June Squibb who brought laughter and energy to Nebraska
Will Win: Jennifer Lawrence. Cue the backlash.
