30 Days Of The Strokes
Day 30 - How They’ve Changed You
The Strokes changed me in a different way than I guess they did for most. As I got into them in my early 20s rather than at I time I was first discovering music they didn’t change my music taste or change the way I thought about things like say The Manics or Radiohead did but what they did do was introduce me to some of my closest and dearest friends.
Without The Strokes I would not have met so many fantastic people of which I call many my best friends, people like Bobby (we bonded over Nick Valensi being a Jeff Buckley clone), people like Michelle, Julie and Lu. I love these girls to pieces and how did we met? On messages boards and communities dedicated to The Strokes.
The Strokes opened up that idea to me of searching out other fans to talk to, before 2001 the Internet was a place I checked emails on and that was about it. But then I discovered Yahoo clubs and Livejournal communities and with that I started realising there were other people like me out there. People that not only loved The Strokes but often thought about things the way I did, shared the same problems and love.
The Strokes also helped me through some rough periods in my life, specifically the year of awful unemployment I went through post-University. I really don’t know where I would have been if it wasn’t for Room On Fire and that band. I was severely depressed, not for the first time in my life and certainly not for the last but it was a horrendous period in my life that mid-2003 to mid-2004 era but because I had connected with people like Bobby, etc they helped me through it. Also spending a ridiculous amount of time fangirling The Strokes and creating websites for them took my mind of things, because there is nothing more damaging than allowing me time to over think things when I’m depressed.
So The Strokes they changed my life, they brought beautiful lovely human beings into it, they let me drift away and lose myself in music instead of my mind. If I ever met the band all I would say to them is thank you, thank you for uniting a bunch of girls from across the world in a shared love.

Day 28 - The Song That Blew You Away
New York City Cops
This was the song that turned me from ‘I’m rather interested in this band’ to ‘HDKJSHKJHDJHSHHD I WANT TO BE IN THIS BAND’

Day 27 - The First Album You Bought
Is This It
9 years ago yesterday, I proceeded to play it to death for the next two years until ROF came out. One of my first reaction to the actual CD (not the music) was looking at the inlay booklet and going WTF at JP & Gordon who looked like drug dealers and Ryan who looked insane with that manic grin.

Day 26 - A song that reminds you of something important
Electricityscape
Reminds me of the holiday I took with my 3 best friends round France in May 2006. I made a Strokes mix-cd and Electricityscape became the song of the trip. I remember many afternoons falling asleep in the back of the car as Julie drove round the French countryside and Electricityscape blasted through the speakers. Good times indeed.

Day 25 - Favorite Festival
Reading August 23 2002
From a personal experience, Reading 2002 was epic. It was The Strokes first major festival headline slot and Julian’s Birthday. So not only did we get an wonderful gig but we all sang Happy Birthday to Julian whilst cake was handed out. Oh and Julian looked adorable sitting on a stool because of his messed up knee.
As if the day wasn’t wonderful enough, it ended with Jack Motherfucking White coming on stage to play NYCC. Oh yes fuck yes. I may have exploded on the spot. I may be exploding now remembering it.

Day 24 - Your Least Favorite Song
Here have a random photo of Julian with some dwarfs, why? Because I can’t actually answer this question, I don’t have a least favourite song.
A lot of people shit on Killing Lies but I love the lullaby quality of it. I also frigging adore 15 Minutes and On The Otherside (other songs that people tend to dislike)
So yeah the Strokes have never made a bad song, so random photo it is.

Day 23 - Favorite Song Live
Take It Or Leave It
Though its always slightly depressing as it signals the end of the gig, its always so full of energy and I love how Julian usually ends up jumping into the crowd and the entire venue loses it shit. Yeah this song reminds me of many fun fun times

Day 22 - Favorite Album Art
I love the 80s style and all the different designs for each song. Though to be fair I’m generally a fan of The Strokes artwork (especially the Is This It ass cover)
Julian Casablancas on the Room On Fire backlash (NME July 2004)

30 Days of The Strokes
Day 20 - Favorite Side Project
I am going to take this opportunity to give my opinion on the various solo projects
Little Joy
Are a splendid wonder of well joy. I love their album for long summer days or dark winter nights when I’m missing summer. I like how the music is pretty simple but works well.
Julian Casablancas
Clearly the stand out in terms of music, I mean there’s not a lot I have to add. But as much as I love Phrazes unlike some people it won’t ever better anything The Strokes as a whole can deliver. Julian is awesome solo but better with the whole gang.
Nickel Eye
I think Niko’s solo album is pretty underrated. I can understand maybe his voice is for everyone but I love the raw sound of the record. Also Where the Cold Wind Blows is beautiful, BEAUTIFUL I TELL YOU!
Albert Hammond Jr
Now when Yours To Keep came out I was very fond of the record but then I kind of got bored with it and by the time the follow up came out I was completely disinterested. I actually quite like Albert’s vocals but I found the music to be pleasant enough for a while then forgettable
Nick Valensi
Yeah we had a 4 year hiatus and I still never got a solo album from my favourite member *grumbles* Nick has though contributed to various things and so here is my chance to fangirl over the Sia album which has been my faithful companion on my journey to work for the past few weeks. I really hope Sia and Nick go ahead with plans to write pop songs for other artists because they could seriously take over the world.

Day 19 - Favorite B-Side
Modern Girls & Old Fashion Men
I’m actually not a fan of Regina Spektor’s voice so it was a great shock to find myself enjoying it on this song. I think it goes well with Julian’s. I love the opening riff, so delicious

Day 18 - Favorite Era for each men
I kind of love them throughout their career for different reasons
Nick
I love how he is now mature family man but still fun. But then Is This It cocky funny Nick was great and in terms of looks ROF Nick was completely Sexy McSexy. FIOE Nick did some great interviews and started with the Rock God Jimmy Page rock poses.
Julian
I always like Julian at the beginning of a new album/era he always seems refreshed and happy. Its after a long tour that he makes me feel oddly sad (think circa 2004, clearly struggling with booze and unhappy).
Fab
Likable no matter what. Always incredibly smart and hilarious. Adorable. Lovely. I do think he is looking especially good these days.
Albert
Is a funny one, I have a love-hate relationship with Al. Not like he cares what I think ha. I’ve always found him slightly sleazy I guess which means I’ve never fully warmed to him compared to the others.
Nikolai
Nikolai wins at all eras and at life.

Day 17 - Favorite Lyric
Vision of Division
Found this quite hard to decide, I do love the whole of Vision of Division though the way its a two seperate people talking, clever old Jules
