SPN S6: It's just not doing it for me
Supernatural should be many things, fun, terrifying, disgusting, hilarious.
It should never be boring.
The last two episodes have bored me to tears to the point that its taken me two hours to watch the latest episode because I kept pausing it and doing more interesting things.
This entire season has been so disappointing and I keep waiting for it to improve and it does for like one episode and that’s it. I think after 14 episodes (over half the season) I feel like I can begin to judge it.
06x01 Exile On Main St - First 20 minutes or so was great rest just felt so off. I realise now its because Sam was soulless but as season premier it fell way below the mark.
06x02 Two And A Half Men - Oh look Dean with a baby how cute. That’s all I can remember from it. Didn’t it involve Samuel and Sam being dicks? Possibly.
06x03 The Third Man - At last a decent episode full of mythology and great character moments. If only more episodes were like this one.
06x04 Weekend At Bobby’s - Another good episode. Crowley being a delicious bastard, Bobby saying ‘Balls’ all the time and calling out Dean and Sam on their bullshit. Oh and Rufus!
06x05 Live Free or Twihard - Just no, should have been a proper funny episode of instead of an uneasy mix of comedy and darkness.
06x06 You Can’t Handle The Truth - Meh
06x07 Family Matters - Quite liked this one the ending was awesome. I thought it might signal the start of a better season.
06x08 All Dogs Go To Heaven - The best thing about this episode was the dog and Crowley.
06x09 Clap Your Hands If You Believe - Probably my favourite episode of the season so far.
06x10 Caged Heat - Should have been awesome, had some good moments ended up being disappointing and oh look another awesome character killed
06x11 Appointment in Samarra - The Dean as Death stuff was great, the Bobby trapped in a slasher movie stuff not so much
06x12 Like A Virgin - The Sassy stuff amazing, all the Sam scenes great, Dean with a sword hilarious. Then they go and ruin it with the helpless girls trapped in a dungeon, oh look the new big bad is Female this will be a perfect excuse for Dean to call her a bitch bullshit.
06x13 Unforgiven - Despite loving Sam and Robo!Sam this episode bored me to death.
06x14 Mannequin 3: The Reckoning - The Ben/Dean stuff was cute but the music was sentimental bullshit and the montage even as a fan of Lisa I wanted to puke, everything else was again boring
Other problems:
Heaven is in disarray, there is a civil war going on, Castiel is stressed as fuck, his brothers are killing each other. And what? They would rather give us an episode about killer dolls? Seriously show? I know not everyone likes the Angel mythology but for me its been the strongest thing about the last few seasons. Without it SPN just goes back to being a MOTW show.
Sam/Dean: Jeez guys can you like agree on something for more than one episode. Dean don’t fucking tell your little brother to turn into an alcoholic fuck-up like you, JFC.
Characters Not Called Winchester: Same problem as its always been, introduce great characters that add depths and shades of grey and kill them off. Thanks show, thanks so much for doing it time and time again to the point that as soon as someone who is awesome joins the show for a few episodes we all know they will be killed off. Also stop under using Castiel, its beyond ridiculous now. I know they gave Misha time off in the first half of the season because he was becoming a father but don’t go and promise he will be in every episode post hiatus and then he isn’t.
Hey look something positive
I’m really looking forward to the Meta Overload episode next week and the western one that’s coming up think they have the potential to be classic Supernatural episodes.
Final thoughts
I very rarely give up on shows, it happened with Heroes because it lost the plot big time and Tim Kring was a complete bastard. With Supernatural if it gets S7 I may have to check out completely, as much as I love the cast and the characters continuing to watch a show which just makes me mad most weeks isn’t really worth it. I hate it when shows squander their potential, they could be amazing but end up being disappointingly average or a shadow of their former selves.
